Ridgeway Baptist Church |
About Our Church
We declare that Jesus Christ is the only way to life and happiness and eternal life. We believe in the authority of the Holy Bible which is the infallible, inerrant Word of God. We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, rose triumphantly from the grave and will come again in power and glory. AffiliationsSouthern Baptist Convention |
HistoryRidgeway Baptist Church was organized in 1913 with 22 charter members. A group of people decided that there was a need for a church in this part of the community which was considered the Turnpike at that time. Hominy Baptist is our mother church, and we were in the circuit riders area then. A circuit rider was a pastor who preached at several churches in an area. The land was purchased from Mrs. S. J. Luther for $100.00. It took about a year to build the little one room wood frame church that used to sit on the west side of this building. Men of the community cut and hauled logs to a saw mill in the Morgan Cove. Uncle Dock Morgan, being a man of more means, furnished a team of oxen and men to work them. The first service was held on March 21, 1914. We have had a total of 17 pastors and two interim pastors over the last 94 years. Very few are still with us. Our current pastor, Rev. Jackie Collins came to us in 1991. He has been a real leader and a blessing to this church. The church decided that we needed a bigger building. The ground breaking for the new church took place in 1961. The bottom part of the building was completed and the first service was held on June 3, 1962. We sold the old building for $100. The sanctuary and the rest of the building was completed and dedicated on November 28, 1965. Since then we have made other improvements. Pastors as well as members have come and gone, but Ridgeway has remained a light on the hill. Ridgeway welcomes you and promises to be the best church we can be. |
